Rafael Nadal Makes Record 14th French Open Final Appearance
Heartbreaking Injury Ends Zverev's Title Hopes
Nadal Advances After Zverev Suffers Ankle Injury
Rafael Nadal has reached the final of the French Open for a record-breaking 14th time after his opponent, third seed Alexander Zverev, suffered a horrific ankle injury during their semi-final clash. Nadal was leading 7-6 (8), 6-6 when Zverev was forced to retire from the match.
The incident occurred in the 12th game of the second set, as Zverev attempted to change direction while chasing a ball. His right ankle buckled beneath him, and he collapsed in agony. Nadal immediately went to Zverev's aid, and the German was taken off the court in a wheelchair, with tears streaming down his face.
Nadal expressed his sympathy for Zverev, saying that he was "very sorry" to see his opponent injured. "It's very tough," said Nadal. "I wish him all the best and I hope he recovers well."
Nadal will now face either Casper Ruud or Marin Cilic in the final on Sunday, June 5. The Spaniard is the heavy favorite to win his 14th French Open title and extend his record as the most successful men's player in the tournament's history.
